ISE uses modern technologies PDF Print E-mail
Learn the technologies used by ISE and the difference between other simulators.

What means saying that ISE is developed with the most modern technologies?

  • The newest formulations of thermodynamics models;

It means that the calculations used on ISE's simulations are made with the most modern mathematical models for thermodynamic properties available. Among these models, we can mention the UGMR mixing rule and more rigorous models for Free Gibbs Energy on liquids. In that way, we provide the best possible results for the simulation.

On this point, ISE is ahead of even the most famous steady state simulators on the market that, in general, are lagged on these technologies.
  • Equation-oriented method of constructin the simulation;

It is common the similar sotwares to ISE are built with mathematical models developed in a procedural way. Thus, each equipment is calculated in a specific manner, limiting its possibilities to be characterized or to interact with the other equipments on the same simulation. ISE, on the other hand, uses the equation-oriented technology to build the simulation. Thus, the user doesn't have to worry about specific information for one equipment, but with the number of global degrees of freedom (DF), that is a relation between the number of variables, equations and specifications. Internally, this technology brings more important advantages, such as the viability of the direct calculation of recycle streams, for example.

ISE recycle ethanol

On the above example, we find a methanol and acetone separation process. Their mixture has an azeotrope. In order to have them both pure, there are operated two columns together, in different pressure conditions, shifting the azeotrope composition. Each top product (with the respective azeotrope composition) is fed to the other column.

  • Totally developed in Java language.

Other existing simulators are, in large majority, dependent on codes developed with older languages, such as FORTRAN or C. The result, for the developers, is a very difficult code to mantain, with ever increasing problems such as compatibility. Users, on the other hand, are exposed to limited and outdated interfaces. ISE is developed in Java, which is an object-oriented programming language that brings several advantages to the developers and, consequently, to the final user. This language is maintained by Sun Mycrosystem, which have been providing frequent packages updates, improving their functionalities, optimizing the computational processes and diminishing the bugs occurrence.

For developers, it means a greater efficiency since they can focus on the simulator funciontalities and not in the "bureaucratic" implementation of it. For the end-user, the result is a software with a friendlier interface, with advanced functionalities.
Also, Java platform has the differential of portability. It allow the developed software to run on virtually any operational system, besides web applications.
